this weekend was the may day long weekend and the rogue transmission took our brand of rock to beijing. on friday night we played at D-22 as part of their 3rd anniversary celebrations. the carsick cars headlined – the gar (who we played with last weekend at get in the van) and offset: spectacles were also on the bill. we really killed it. i think that means we played exceptionally well. we had only 35 minutes and we used our time really well. the place was packed and well… it just awesome.

offset: spectacles were odd. they didn’t have a drummer. they didn’t seem to have any songs. and they didn’t really have very much presence either. the three of them stood in a loose circle on the stage – the singer with his back to the audience. strangely they did have great equipment though – two vox AC30s and big ol’ bad-ass vox bass amp.

the carsick cars were on top form. the place was totally rammed and the vibe was excellent.

the last song of the night was their hit – zhong nan hai (???). right on cue the cigarettes started flying. zhong nan hai, as well as being the name of the compound where the chinese leadership lives (?), it is also a popular brand of cigarettes.

it was a late night and then an afternoon bullet train to tianjin, just half an hour away.

tianjin is really nice. the wasn’t any construction. little noise. it looked pleasant. it looked finished, unlike so many chinese cities.the hotel we stayed in had very low ceilings. just like in being john malkovich.

we played at a new club there called NiC club, owned by the awesome song ping. technical difficulties aside, it was a great night. we headlined to about thirty people. we played like it was 300. after the show the party really got started as we jammed all night with song ping and his mates. it was a lot of fun. tianjin rock city!
