Here’s a few pics from The Dudettes’ Last Shout on Friday night. More coming soon.

A Meteoric Rise

The Dudettes’ first show was at Logo on May 16th. Their second show, on June 5th, was at The British Bulldog as part of a Talent Quest organised by Zuloo, a local theater group. When they performed all three of their songs, H1N1, Facebook Stalker and Shopping in China, the judges were unanimous in awarding them the first prize.

This is the original line-up of The Dudettes. On the left is Roses. Next to her, with the heart-shaped glasses, is Emily. Next is Sophia von Schakopolous. Finally, on the right, is Anita Schwanz.
Here they are again, this time at Yuyintang for the occasion of Joris’ (The Dropkicks) farewell. It looks like Shopping in China (just pick up the phone).

Sophia von Schakopolous was also a member of another high profile group from last year: Hotter than Teppanyaki. Here you can see members of HTT, The Snotskicks with The Dudettes performing Sakebomb.

Don’t forget to come and see The Dudettes for their final show, this Friday at Logo. Also, Hotter Than Teppanyaki is reforming especially for the night, featuring me playing Helena.
NEWS FLASH: The Dudettes will be performing at the Expo this Thursday 24th June. If you want to join the mayhem, just leave a message here, and The Dudettes will find you.

struth – 5 bands, no cover charge and so much fun. the night started with an acoustic set by joris of the dropkicks.
then it was a great set by hotter than teppanyaki – they were lucky enough to have seven of them on stage last night. and its great to see that logo has moved the dj booth off the stage were it was definitely in the way. the moved it back to where it was a few years ago before they moved it onto the stage. d’uh. anyway, htt were on fine form. the whole room was vibing – their energy is infectious.
at one point in the night they handed out kazoos for a little bit of audience participation. nice.here’s joris, sandro (from the dovetail joints), catlin and myself rockin out to the buzzy sounds of kazoo.
after HTT we had the debut but hopefully not the last performance by the dudettes. apparently these guys formed last thursday. my best friend, roses, has always been wanting to join my band on the tambourine or the triangle. i think she got sick of my rejections and went ahead and formed her own band with emily, sandra (from HTT) and anita (from alaska).
their songs are poignant and topical. if i was their manager i’d suggest Swine Flu to be their first single. Sample lyric – H1N1 – swine flu is no fun. it works better if you say it out loud.
as they have only been a band for three days now, they didn’t have that many songs. so on with the show…
the snots (weren’t they called the snotrockets?) came from their show at dream factory to bring their love for intensely fast 12 bar blues to logo. their singer is ben – the same guy that opened for us on thursday night at anar . he makes great rock faces. the rogue transmission’s very own fabien is also the drummer for the snots. and the dropkicks bassist, toshi, is also the bassist for the snots. and i think their guitarist, misuzu is also in banana monkey. for a side project, the snots are pretty fucking good. they do songs like little richard’s tutti frutti and chuck berry’s johnny b goode – but much much faster. and louder. and heavier. fuck it’s good.
and the dropkicks finished the night. joris is great. he really plays the role of frontman very well. toshi’s bass is just viscious with the dropkicks as it is with the snots. and ben plays the drums like an animal.

Hotter than freakin Teppanyaki!!
ok, so i added the ‘freakin’. i love Hotter than Teppanyaki . it’s hard to capture in words what makes them so special… but i am going to try.
there’s usually six of them on stage. sometimes four, sometimes even up to seven or eight. between the six of them they play drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, trumpet, shakers, flute, ukelele, djembe and accordian. i might have forgotten something. the instument swapping vibe is really fun and is just one factor that contributes to a party atmosphere in the room. estel and helena shake and dance whilst singing about guacamole as an indoor sport. sandra’s trumpet rings out above the organised chaos. dave handles the mic like a pro and commands the stage. basically it’s a big party – and we’re all invited.
now all this might sound a little too chaotic. but nah, they’re really tight and the songs are all so catchy and memorable. check this band out.
their youtube channel . not much help to those of us behind the firewall.
anar is a cool venue. the sound is great. and i’m playing there on thursday with the rogues for a very special, one night only kinda affair. i hired a lovely acoustic guitar yesterday. i’m excited.

what are the people saying?
