About

Luwan Rock.com is a geek’s view of the Shanghai music scene. I used to play guitar in The Rogue Transmission and The Dovetail Joints as well as fronting a few side projects. These days though, I’m doing more audio work than performing. This includes live sound, most often for The Fever Machine and Rainbow Danger Club, and studio work (recording, mixing, mastering). Recent mixing/mastering credits include Stegosaurus?, Break for Borneo, The Fever Machine, Baltic States, Pairs, Little Punk and Q.A.

In addition to loving the music, I’ve always had a passion for the gear that helps us to make the music. On Luwan Rock you’ll find reports about any shiny objects that take my fancy as well as gig reviews, sometimes from the stage.

Hi Adam. We are trying to find a studio to record our songs. I found a couple on City Weekend, around 260 per hour or something (Zun Yi and Pure Morning). Can you recommend any others? Wu Jun’s studio said they will record in the future, possibly next month.

    hey josh

i don’t know what your budget is like – the studio that i have used a few times is excellent. the guy’s name is kim or xiao jin. he has a great space on panyu (fanyu?) lu near fahuazhen lu, just behind logo.

i think he charges between 1500-1800 for a day in the studio – about 8-10 hours.

just don’t let him sleep while you’re recording. i will put more as i think of them.

    Hey Adam,

Wired has posted a good story about the growing Beijing rock scene – with some great photos to boot! Thought you might enjoy.

    Hey Nathan,
Sorry mate, but I used to play in a different Dovetail Joints to the one your thinking of. We were based in Shanghai, China. Nice to hear from you anyway.
